Can my 4 year old register for baseball?

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Yes, the Rally Cap age group is for the children born in 2008-2010. Due to restrictions in our player insurance coverage, we are not allowed to make any exceptions.

What is Rally Cap?

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Rally Cap is the new name for TBall. It gives the player a chance to earn a new hat with each level of skill they learn.

Are girls allowed to play baseball?

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Yes, Stony Plain Minor Ball is a co-ed.

What is the difference between baseball and softball?

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Baseball has a small hard ball and pitches overhand. Softball uses a larger soft ball and pitches underhand. Softball is an all female based association.

Can I be an umpire? Will I get paid for it?

Sunday, September 14, 2014

If you are 13 and up you can be an Umpire. Different levels of Umpires are paid different amounts of money. If you are a youth Umpire then you would Umpire younger age groups.

Can I be a coach? Do I need to be certified?

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Yes, you can be a coach to a House League team without having any certified levels. House League Coaches must have a current criminal check completed ahead of time and complete the online course 'Respect in Sport'. Only the coaches for Rep ball need to have the qualified levels of certification.

What is a typical season for Rally Cap?

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Hello Typical season is first week of May until last week of June. It is weather dependent. With the awful weather we had last year, we may delay the start of season for Rally Cap until mid May and go to mid July. Once we get closer to May, we will make a decision and let parents/guardians now by email and post to our website. Hope to see you on the field in May!

My son played rally cap last year for the first time. What is the difference between rally cap and pre-rookie? I'm just wondering if my son is ready for the next level or if he should stay in rally cap.

Monday, February 2, 2015

Hello The difference between Rally Cap and Pre-Rookie is the focus on team play. In Rally Cap we focus on the basic skills, hitting, catching, throwing. In Pre-Rookie we will focus on these but more so on actual baseball play. So assigning positions on the field, learning plays, and focus more on the players working as a team because they understand the basic skills more. It is a great introduction to the Rookie season. Any other questions, please let us know. Hope to see you on the field! LS

Hello,Was wondering if diamonds rotate each week, or if they are set for the season. Am looking to have one child In Rally cap and one in Rookie both on Monday and Wednesday nights. Is there any chance these would be at the same location? Thanks

Sunday, February 15, 2015

Hello Unfortunately no. Rally Cap games are played on smaller Rally Cap school fields in 4 locations in Stony Plain. Rookie games are played on diamonds at different locations in stony plain and spruce grove. But Rally Cap is offered on Tuesday/Thursday nights as well so that it does not coincide with the Rookie schedule. Any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. LS

So RallyCap plays a total of twice per week? Are all games in Stony Plain?

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Hello Yes, Rally Cap players play twice per week. Either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, whichever is selected during registration. Players play on 4 different fields all located in Stony Plain. A schedule will be provided by the director once registration is complete and teams are formed, typically the last week of April. LS

Two Questions:1. My son has never played baseball before. He would be joining the "Rookie" team. Should he have experience to play with Rookies?2. What months does baseball run? Is it May and June?

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

Hello He does not need experience to play rookie, or any level actually. We have the grass roots levels for our teams (House), and then the Rep level of teams. So he will do great! And yes, it is May and June. Start date will depend on weather but aiming for the first week. See you on the field soon! LS

My son will be a first time ball player this year (mosquito). Are games played in SG & SP only or in Edmonton, too? How many nights/days a week can we expect to be at ball?

Monday, March 9, 2015

Hello Mosquito is part of the Golden West League. So therefore they play in Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and South Jasper Place (West Edmonton). The Golden West League will make up a schedule and distribute closer to the start of the season. Mosquito will play on Tuesday/Thursday nights for games and there will be at least one additional practice during the week determined by the coach. There is also a mid season and end of season tournament which will typically be on a weekend. Any other questions, please let us know, see you on the field!

Do the kids need t buy uniforms and protective equipment?

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Hello All uniforms are supplied. Mosquito levels and older need to return the jersey and belt at the end of the season. All other tshirts, pants, etc are the players to keep. In terms of equipment, each player at all levels is required to have their own ball glove and batting helmet. All other equipment is supplied. Any other questions, let us know.

What size of bat do we need? Also, are wooden ones ok?

Sunday, April 26, 2015

Hello All bats are supplied at the field for all levels, so no bats are required. We ask that players do not bring their own bats to the field as they tend to get mixed up or lost with the coach's equipment. Thanks! LS

Do you have any programs for 3yos? My son will be 3 on May 29, 2016. We were hoping to get him into a summer sport. Thanks :) Tamara

Saturday, February 20, 2016

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

No, sorry

my sons wants to play ball but not hit off a tee. is there an option for coach pitch for 6 year olds ?

Saturday, March 5, 2016

Yes, usually the coach will ask the player if they want the tee or if they want to have it thrown to them

We are new to the area. My son is trying out for Rep. We checked the option on our registration. Does he just show up for the times listed under camps and they'll have his name on a list? Is there any extra cost for tryouts? If we chose the wrong size for his jersey/uniform can it be exchanged?

Monday, March 14, 2016

You can just show up for tryouts and there is no cost. You can double check on the sizes when you pick up your uniform and get the correct size needed

Both my boys have always played fastball since they started ball. They are 8 and 10 now. How would they fit into a switch to baseball? I am considering for this year or next. Thanks

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

They would probably be fine. The game is very similar.

Can you let me know what the days of play will be for Rookie in 2017. Also, I know it is somewhat weather dependant but if you have a best guess on when the season would start it would be appreciated as well.

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

Hello Yes Rookie is Monday/Wednesday nights as well as practices assigned by the coach. Yes it is weather dependent. Schedules have not been compiled yet but the season starts first week of May and ends last week of June. Thanks for the question!

Wednesday, February 1, 2017

Hello We do not have a separate girls only team, they are mixed teams. We have 2 teams of play, the house team and the rep team. The rep team is competitive and there are tryouts involved. Our registration is for house teams. It is ran for all player levels of skill. So we have brand new ball players mixed with returning players where the focus is on learning the skills needed to play. Any other questions, let us know. Hope to see you on the diamonds!
